1 Kings 19: What are You Doing Here?

And the word of the Lord came to him:
“What are you doing here, Elijah?”
He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”

"What are you doing here, Elijah?"
The truth is that Elijah was running away and hiding in a hole. He might have been the greatest prophet of all time, but he was getting old and tired.
"What am I doing here, Lord? The rest of the world has gone crazy. I'm the only one left with a lick of sense, and I'm sick of doing this alone."
And God, with infinite love and compassion, said, "Shut up."
"This ministry isn't about you, Elijah. It's about God. And there are plenty of people who are ready to carry my message forward."
At times it seems the whole country--the whole world--has run off the rails. But you're NOT the only one left with a lick of sense. There are plenty of people seeking God's will for their lives and the world.
So when God asks you today, "Child, what are you doing here?" remember the right answer.
"Following you, Lord."
