1 Peter 2 A Peculiar People
--------
Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
--------
Sometimes you just have to go with the old King James translation
Modern versions call us "special"
But I think they got it right in 1611
Believers are peculiar people
We were nobodies until Jesus found us, but now we are a royal priesthood
That word "priest" really means "bridge builder"
It's the same idea Jesus used when he said, "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall see God"
Blessed are the bridge builders
Today we are beset on all sides with people drawing lines in the sand
It is downright peculiar to be bridge builders
It's not natural
In fact, it's supernatural
But by the Grace of God, we can overcome the gaps and chasms and lines in the sand
We can do it because we have received mercy--
So we can SHOW mercy
Isn't that peculiar?
