Memorial Day grew out of the struggle to heal this land after the Civil War.
The history of that conflict cannot be written only in Black and White. Blacks, Native people, and Chinese immigrants also served.
At the time, most of them could not claim to be US citizens. They volunteered anyway. They served for the love of this land and the hope of Liberty and Justice for All.
Today we are closer to that dream than they could have imagined. Liberty and Justice are still not perfect here, but together we can achieve that.
Honoring their memory moves us that much closer.
Pray for healing and hope in this great land.
