Psalm 61: In the Shelter of Your Wings
--------------------------
Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.
I long to dwell in your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
--------
A barnyard goose is a formidable watchdog,
especially when guarding her young.
The shelter of her wings keeps the chicks warm and safe,
but woe betide anyone who gets too close.
The psalmist promises safety and shelter under God's wings,
but not just in a passive way.
God will protect you as a mother protects her young.
In crazy times like this it's good to know,
you are one of God's younguns.
and God's got your back.
--------
Under His wings I am safely abiding
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild
Still I can trust Him, I know He will keep me
He has redeemed me
and I am His child
