John 13: A New Commandment
--------
Jesus said, "My children, I will be with you only a little longer. A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
--------
Tonight we celebrate the Last Supper. Jesus called us to remember him every time we share the bread and the cup. But he also added an eleventh commandment. Love each other.
We not all cut from the same cloth. We have different skin colors, languages, political persuasions, and cultures. But we have one commandment from Jesus: Love each other.
He said that's how people can recognize us as Believers. That may be more true today than ever. It's natural to have distrust and discord. Our world is full of that negativity.
It's supernatural to be so good at loving each other that the world can see we're different. I don't know about you, but I've never had the power to do that myself... CERTAINLY not after the past year of trials and tribulation and isolation.
Fortunately, I don't have to do it myself. I'm invited to come to the table to receive Christ's body and blood--the gifts of His amazing love. Then go and let His love shine through you.
