The True Light

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

The word "true" here means real. Genuine. Bona fide.
Looking at the earth from the Space Station, it's getting hard to find any dark spaces. The night is alight with artificial illumination.
But no matter how bright our lights are, they are pale imitations of the sun. When the dawn comes, all the artificial lights are washed out.
There are lots of knock-off lights out there. There are lots of people waving them around and bragging about how bright they are. But when the real light comes, all those pretenders fade away.
Keep your eyes on the real light.

How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
