Friday Scripture: Judges 2
Nature Loves a Sine Wave
-----------------------
After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.
Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals.
They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt.
They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them.
They aroused the Lord’s anger because they forsook him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.
------------------------
Nature loves a sine wave.
Ocean surf is a sine wave.
Light and sound travel on sine waves.
Radio signals are sine waves.
The Appalachian mountains form sine waves.
Human nature follows the same pattern.
The entire book of judges follows a sine wave.
Things are great and the people are blessed.
Then they forget God and follow sex cults.
Then things go from bad to worse.
Then they remember God and turn back.
Then things are great and they are blessed.
As I read the Book of judges I wonder...
How could they be so stoopuhd?
Then I check the news headlines
And I wonder--if they could see us today,
Would they ask us the same thing?
But I know I follow the same pattern.
Blessed.
Forgetful
Distracted..
Wheels fall off.
Turn back to God.
Blessed.
No wonder God gave us the entire book of Proverbs to say,
HEY! Don't be stoopuhd!
Turn to God first--before the wheels fall off!
As I get better at this thing we call life, I still follow that sine wave.
But I'm learning (slowly) to turn to God sooner and level out the low spots.
Oh, the wheels still fall off.
But I'm learning to let God put them back sooner rather than later.
The ocean and the mountains are there to remind me.
-----------------------
When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
