Friday Scripture and Prayer: Psalm 19
Wow!
----------------
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
------------------
Dark is getting to be a rare commodity.
Some people have never seen it.
Our modern lights are drowning out the stars.
On a crisp, clear, moonless night when the milky way rises, we get a glimpse of how big Creation is.
We are a fragile, unlikely speck of life in the infinite expanse of the cosmos.
Some might say it's miraculous.
We've been taught that we cannot possibly be unique.
There are too many galaxies with too many planets.
Billions and billions.
Do the math.
But--for just a moment--consider the possibility that God created all of that just so the strange creatures on this unusual rock could look up at the stars and say
Wow!
The stars have no speech, but they do have knowledge.
When your problems seem so big, go find someplace dark.
Listen to the stars.
They are telling you the Glory of God.
Your worries will become so small and your wonder will grow.
There are no words to their song, but soon you'll be singing along.
------------------
O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul, my savior God to thee
How great thou art, how great thou art.
