Psalm 37 Never forsaken
--------
I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.
They are always generous and lend freely;
Others will see that their children are blessed.
--------
At first glance this is a bold claim.
Loving, kind, and generous souls are seldom prosperous by the world's standards--but never forsaken by God.
Those who have the least financial assets often have the most to share.
But what about the children?
Even in our land today, there are hungry children.
How can an old Psalmist be blind to that?
Maybe it has to do with generosity.
There are hungry children everywhere.
But when the righteous see them, they get fed.
They don't have to beg because the righteous always have something to give.
So hungry children disappear when the righteous show up.
All it takes is for God's people to see the need.

Look on the heart by sorrow broken,
look on the tears by sinners shed;
and be thy feast to us the token
that by thy grace our souls are fed
