Wednesday Scripture: 1 Peter 2
A Peculiar People
----------------
Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
----------------
Sometimes you just have to go with the old King James translation.
Modern versions call us "special."
But I think they got it right in 1611.
Believers are peculiar people.
We are peculiar because we were nobodies until Jesus found us, but now we are a royal priesthood.
That word "priest" really means "bridge builder."
It's the same idea Jesus used when he said, "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall see God."
Blessed are the bridge builders.
Today we are beset on all sides with people drawing lines in the sand.
It is downright peculiar to be bridge builders in 2020.
It's not natural.
In fact, it's supernatural.
But by the Grace of God, we can overcome the gaps and chasms.
We can do it because we have received mercy--
So we can SHOW mercy.
Isn't that peculiar?

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
