Psalm 121: Unto These Hills
--------
I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
--------
There are beach people and mountain people.
As for me and my house, we are mountain people.
Don't get me wrong: the beach is pretty and the ocean is awesome.
But for us, God lives in the mountains.
The Cherokee say God created them for the mountains and created the mountains for them.
In times of great hardship they trusted God for help, and they found that help right where they expected it:
In the mountains.
God still speaks most clearly in the land you love most.
For Cajuns and Creoles, it's the bayou.
For the Pennsylvania Dutch, it's... well... Pennsylvania.
For some it's the high plains or the desert.
And yes, for some it's the beach.
It doesn't matter what your special place is.
Find the land you love the most and lift up your eyes.
God will speak to you there.
--------
This is my song, O God of all the nations
A song of peace for lands afar and mine
This is my home, the country where my heart is
Here are my hopes and dreams, my holy shrine
