Monday Scripture and Prayer: Matthew 14
Listening to the news
----------------------------
When Jesus heard the news,
he slipped away by boat to an out-of-the-way place by himself.
But unsuccessfully—
someone saw him and the word got around.
Soon a lot of people from the nearby villages walked around the lake to where he was.
When he saw them coming, he was overcome with compassion for they were as sheep without a shepherd,
and he healed their sick.
-----------------------------
We're all tired of social distancing.
But when you listen to the news, don't you want to just get away from it?
Head for the hills?
You're not alone.
Jesus still listens to the news.
And we still find him in solitary places.
But next time you hear the news, look at all the people.
They are still wondering and wandering like sheep without a shepherd.
Jesus still has compassion on them.
He has compassion for you.
And he is still healing.
----------------------------
I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus my Savior did come for to die
For poor on'ry people like you and like I
I wonder as I wander out under the sky…
