Luke 24: The Road to Nowhere
--------
Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.
As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.
--------
We have no idea where Emmaus was.
We know it was seven miles from Jerusalem. But search as they might, archeologists have never found it. So today, if you decided to walk to Emmaus, you would be on the road to nowhere.
That day as they walked the disciples were hopeless and defeated. Their destination was real, but they were on the road to nowhere.
The amazing thing is that Jesus was walking with them in their despair, listening to their retelling of the latest news. But they didn't realize it. They were too busy re-telling the day's bad news.
Today we still have lots of news to discuss--and most of it is bad. As we retell it over and over, many of us are trudging along in hopeless defeat, on the road to nowhere.
Here's the good news. Jesus is walking with you today--listening to your stories. Once you recognize that, you'll never again be on the road to nowhere.
