Galatians 6--Sowing and Reaping
--------
Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God.
What a person plants, they will harvest.
The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God—harvests a crop of weeds.
But the one who plants in response to God harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.
So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good.
At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit.
Every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.
--------
In the south we have some great words.
One of my favorites is, "hoodoo."
A hoodoo is a deceptive spirit, trying to sell a lie.
Sometimes it seems we are surrounded by professional hoodoos.
And all the hoodoos are trying to expose all the other hoodoos as liars, so they can sell us more of their own lies.
They all promise to bring the other hoodoos to justice.
But they are all selling a bill of fictitious goods.
Don't worry about it.
They might fool us.
They might fool themselves.
But they haven't fooled God.
Don't listen to the hoodoos today.
Let them doo all the hoo they want.
God will settle the score with them.
They will reap what they sow.
You sow seeds of kindness and water them with love.
Don't get fatigued with doing good.
You and God will harvest something great.
You will reap what you sow.
-----------------
Lord, fill my heart with seeds of kindness.
Let me be the Johnny Appleseed of love.
And let me harvest what I sow.
