Exodus 3: Sacred Stories, TODAY!
--------
God said to Moses, “I AM who I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
--------
The great "I AM" is never in the past tense.
God did not say, “Hey, y’all remember how we used to do it in the past? When you used to be free? Those were the good old days--I’m the God of the way things used to be!”
Look through the sacred book all you want. You’ll never find the great "I Was."
Sacred stories are not about what God did long ago. They are about what God IS doing. Today. They unleash the power of Creation, Redemption, and Resurrection right now, in THIS sacred moment.
For Native people, this is so important. Sacred stories are not about a time 400 years ago when Indigenous folks used to be somebody. They empower Native people to be themselves and know the Creator. Today.
At this time of year Christians tell the passion story--and that's pretty important too. It is not just a history lesson about the past--but a celebration of what Jesus IS doing for us. Today.
Every morning we start a new sacred story. Today is a brand new creation, and it will never come again. That makes today's story uniquely important. Take time to look at the red sun rising and thank the Creator for what God is making right now. Then go tell your sacred stories. Today.
Anytime you tell a sacred story, you unleash heavenly power in the present tense. Get ready for God to do something amazing.
Today.
