John 20:1 When is Easter?
-------
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.

You probably know that the date of Easter floats--it is never the same date two years in a row. So how do we know when Easter Sunday will be?
It took Christians 800 years to decide, but the date has been linked to Passover in the Jewish calendar. That event happens fourteen days after the first new moon after the spring equinox. That happens on the 14th day of the month of Nisan, and Easter comes two days later, which means it can come anytime from March 22 to April 25, depending on the phase of the moon during the spring equinox.
Simple, right?
But for Christians east of Rome, Easter usually comes one or two weeks later. That is because the Eastern Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar instead of the Gregorian calendar.
Hmmm...
Maybe that's why the early church decided that EVERY Sunday is Easter Sunday. I like that. Easter Sunday is not a floating event. It happens all year long.
I hope you had a great Easter yesterday--and I hope every Sunday is Easter Sunday from now on.
