Matthew 4: Leading by Example
--------
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

In 1491 there were no schools in America, but that doesn't mean there was no education. Children learned by watching and imitating. They learned to think and act like their elders.
When Jesus was ready to change the world he did not start a school. He called people to be his disciples. That word “disciple” is similar to our word “apprentice.” Apprentices are not asked to listen to lectures. They are called to watch the master at her craft and learn to imitate her every move. They learn by watching their elders.
Like Jesus, spiritual elders teach by doing. They are the ones who are willing to say, “If you want to see what it is to serve God, watch me and do what I do.”
Are you ready to say that to the young warriors you know?
You might as well say it. They are already watching you… imitating you… and following your example.
