Psalm 8--Happy pi day!
--------
Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what are women and men that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
--------
You probably learned about pi in geometry class: it's the ratio of the diameter and circumference of a circle. It's an irrational number so it would seem that it doesn't really exist.
But God has woven pi into the handiwork of the cosmos. The actual length of a river compared to a straight line from beginning to end is always a function of pi. The ratio of white to black stripes on a zebra is a function of pi. So are the spots on a leopard. The frequency of ocean waves are a function of pi. Even the beats of your heart and the breaths of your lungs are regulated by pi.
It's almost like someone DESIGNED all of this with pi as part of the hidden code of life! I reckon that Designer could be called Creator.
So enjoy 3.14 today--it's part of the way God made you!
