Genesis 1: Rulers of Creation
God blessed humanity and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Sometimes this passage is taken as a mandate to dominate the earth, extracting resources and disrupting nature. But good rulers do not consider themselves to be above their subjects. They are stewards of the land, put in a position to care for it.
We do not inherit the earth to keep it for our own gain. We are borrowing it from our children.
