Genesis 1: Sacred Times

And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.

The sun, moon, and stars in their courses above give rhythm to life: rhyme and reason, time and season for life. They mark sacred times in the sky with their intricate dance.
Next month we will have the sacred time of vernal equinox. It may be cloudy or bright, hot or cold, but on that day spring will begin, no matter how the weather feels. The sacred dance of the seasons comes right on time, regardless.
But this morning is sacred too. As the rising sun paints the dawn red, a new day begins. All the failures of yesterday are in the past. Yesterday's achievements are history as well. Today is a brand new gift of 24 hours. And that is sacred.
