Genesis 1: Living Off the Land
--------
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

These days there are several TV shows that feature people living off the land. The thing is, we could all star in one of those series. EVERYONE lives off the land.
Our food is processed into puffs and nuggets and chips. Water is packaged in plastic. Meat comes in shiny cellophane and styrofoam. It can be hard to remember that the land and the sea delivered all those gifts. We are more dependent on supermarkets than God's hand.
That's a shame, because our relationship with the Creator is mirrored by our relationship to the land. Without the fruits of earth and sea, we perish. The abundance of this good land is the handprint of God.
It's winter, and the land is in Sabbath rest, but signs of life are stirring. Spring will soon be here. Look for those silent signs of life today, and give thanks for the abundant life this land gives you.
