The Right to be Heirs

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

God has no grandchildren--but lots of adopted kids. We were once nobodies, but Christ has given us the right to become part of the family. Jesus was the first begotten, but we are invited to become full family members and joint heirs with Christ.
Under Roman law, an adopted child could never be disowned or disinherited. Those legal ties were stronger than blood.
When you receive Christ you are not given a provisional membership into the Family. God can never let you go.
