Eleventh Day of Christmas, Psalm 119:105
Lifting Up the Light
-------------------
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
-------------------
Back in the time when there was no indoor plumbing, everybody used a lantern to light the path. It was a pretty important journey, and you generally didn't make it at night unless it was URGENT.
When you use a lantern in the dark you cannot hold it down low. The light just shines up in your face and makes it harder to see. You have to hold it high so you can see the path.
That's why Jesus said he must be lifted up. The higher you hold the light of the cross, the better you can see. Today more than ever, lift high the cross.
-------------------
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
till all the world adore his sacred name.
Come, Christians, follow where the Master trod,
our King victorious, Christ the Son of God.
