Today at Grace United Methodist Church in Hartwood Virginia, we welcome our guest preacher, Mr. Robert Smith.
It is Epiphany Sunday--the 12th day of Christmas!
On this day we remember the mysterious Magi who came bearing gifts for the child who was born King of the Jews. We have more mysteries than answers about this story. We have no idea who these people were. We do not know from whence they came. We do not know who sent them. We do not know what they hoped to accomplish. We do not know how they identified the star as the Christ child's star. We do not know how they knew the star was over the house of the holy family.
All we know is that their studies and their journey brought them to the feet of Christ. Their method was strange, but their destination was inspired.
For this day, our congregation realized that God can use all kinds of strange journeys to bring us to Christ. As we celebrate communion and begin a new year, we pray that God will bless our journey as well, until we see the light and find the Christ.
